It has been revealed this week that Aer Lingus has been confirmed to be the launch customer for the upcoming Airbus A321XLR.
As per ch-aviation, it is understood that this aircraft is expected to enter revenue service in the third quarter of this year.

Aer Lingus Touted As Launch Customer for the Airbus A321XLR…
According to orderbooks, Aer Lingus has six Airbus A321XLRs on order.
Reporting from the media outlets state that the Irish carrier will place the aircraft on transatlantic routes that are thin in scope and can’t be wholly sustained by their fleet of widebody aircraft.
We have seen an idea of this before from the Irish carrier through the utilisation of their LR variants, which have been operating flights across to the U.S.
For example, through Aer Lingus UK, some flights to New York JFK were serviced with this aircraft.
There are destinations also from Dublin where the jet is utilised considerably for this sort of travel.
In total, 495 Airbus A321XLRs have been sold by the European planemaker, with many other airlines looking to take advantage of this unique aircraft.
If the LR variant is anything to go by, once the relevant design changes have been made to the XLR before entry-into-service, the potential for this will allow airports with smaller passenger intakes to benefit from these aircraft.
Looking ahead, all eyes will be onto delivery day for this aircraft to Aer Lingus.
