Last week, Boeing’s President and CEO issued a briefing to the companies employees around safety and quality.
This article will cover the details of the briefing to Boeing’s employees and what this means for the U.S. aircraft manufacturer.
Boeing’s President & CEO Briefing
On the same day as posting their first quarter (Q1) financial standings, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dave Calhoun issued a briefing to their employees. The briefing covered details surrounding the company taking action to strengthen its safety and quality.
This briefing comes as the U.S. aircraft manufacturer is under a lot of pressure following the Alaska Airlines Flight AS1282 door plug separation in-flight.
Since January 5, 2024, more than 70,000 of Boeing’s employees participated in Quality Stand Downs. Which followed the receival of over 30,000 ideas on how the company can make improvements. As well as this, they have also seen a 500% increase in employee Speak Up submissions compared to 2023.
The company is taking all of these ideas, making a large list and prioritising them. This will allow Boeing to enhance its factory disciplines and improve overall quality standards.
Some of the areas they are working on include, training, tooling, factory equipment, work instructions, inspection procedures, compliance checks, travelled work controls, incentive structures, employee listening, and culture improvement. This is just the start for the manufacturer.
Alongside this, the manufacturer is deliberately slowing down its processes, to stabilise its supply chain, and fortify their factory operations. All to help deliver the safety and quality its customers need and deserve.
Despite announcing a few weeks ago the he will step down from his post at the end of 2024, Dave Calhoun has committed the following; ensuring their regulators, customers, employees, and the flying public are all 100% confident in Boeing.
Overall
The U.S. aircraft manufacturer certainly still has a large and long mountain to climb, but early signs are showing that they will get it right.
Dave Calhoun finishes the briefing, saying, “So, despite the recent challenges, let’s not lose sight of the progress we have made; of what we are capable of achieving together; and the important role we play in our world. A Boeing airplane safely takes off or lands just about every second of every day.”
