A scheduled flight to Katowice, Poland operated by Ryanair subsidiary Buzz made a precautionary return to Dortmund following a bird strike on 7 June 2024.
Flight FR6916, a flight from Dortmund being operated by Buzz on behalf of Ryanair was on climb below 5000 feet when a bird impacted the right-hand engine.

Following the bird strike, flight crew discontinued the climb and entered a holding pattern in close proximity to Dortmund Airport (DTM).
After a period of holding to permit the crew to troubleshoot the problem, the decision was made to initiate a precautionary return.
The aircraft was then positioned for a return and approach to RWY24. The flight subsequently landed without further incident just over 30 minutes after its initial departure.
Damage to the right-hand engine was reported as a result of the bird strike.

Flight data shows that flight FR6916 made an on-time departure out of Dortmund for Katowice Airport (KTW) at 2037 local time.
Following departure, flight crew terminated the climb procedure at 5000 feet before entering a holding procedure to troubleshoot the issue.
The aircraft did not declare a formal emergency and the subsequent return was conducted under normal operating procedures. The flight subsequently landed at 2114 local time.
The aircraft conducting the FR6916 service to Katowice on behalf of the carrier Ryanair was a Boeing 737-800, registered SP-RKT.
This is a 6.7 year old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the subsidiary carrier Buzz. It has been in operational service with the airline since April 2020. Prior to its service with the carrier, it was operated by Ryanair since its initial delivery in October 2017.
Buzz, the Ryanair subsidiary, is a Polish airline headquartered in Warsaw. It operates scheduled passenger flights out of Poland to other destinations in Europe, and also offers charter flights.
The airline was originally established in 2017 under the name Ryanair Sun. It started out as a charter airline, operating flights to popular vacation destinations.
In March 2019, Ryanair Holdings, the parent company, announced that Ryanair Sun would be rebranded as Buzz. The rebranding took place in autumn 2019, and Buzz commenced operations in January 2020.
