In the last few hours, IndiGo has announced an order for 30 Airbus A350-900 widebody aircraft.
This is the airline’s first direct order of widebody aircraft, as they acquire the taste for widebody operations.

IndiGo Orders Airbus A350-900: Details…
The initial order made by IndiGo is for 30 of the Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
It is understood configuration of the aircraft in terms of seats will be decided at a later date and that deliveries won’t take place until 2027.
Furthermore, on top of the firm order for 30, the Indian carrier also has additional purchase rights for 70 more.
So, if all are exercised, IndiGo could take up to 100 Airbus A350-900 aircraft.
These aircraft will join the existing outstanding orderbook of 1,000+ A320 Family aircraft.
Furthermore, this means that IndiGo’s mainline fleet willl have the A320neo, A321neo, A321XLR & the A350-900.

Commenting on this occasion was IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers who said the following on this:

Overall…
In conclusion, this is a big moment for both IndiGo and Airbus with the A350-900 order.
On the planemaker’s side, this is a continuation of a very strong relationship, plus securing more orders for the widebody.
Furthermore, for the Indian carrier, this will further enhance and expand their international footing.
If the airline exercises the other 70 aircraft, then utilising 100 units of the type could indicate some global expansion.
But for now, let’s wait and see what happens in the months and years ahead regarding this historic order.
