The Indian Government has asked Mumbai Airport to reduce the amount of flights in order to reduce congestion.
As per The Economic Times of India, this move is set to cut around 40 flights, both in commercial operations and private business activity too.

Too Many Flights!: Mumbai Airport Asked To Reduce Congestion…
The Airport Authority of India have asked Mumbai Airport to reduce aircraft movement from 46 to 44 per hour during rush hour and from 44 to 42 during non-peak hours.
It is understood that from this, IndiGo will have to shave 18 flights, whilst Vistara will have to cut around 17 flights to cater to this.
As per the report from the Indian publication, a government spokesperson said the following on this:
“Runway capacity is the sum of multiple things like availability of infrastructure such as parking stands and the time taken by the aircraft to vacate the runway.”
“The airport had given slots to airlines considering the peak handling capacity. But for instance, if an aircraft is pushing back from one bay, the aircraft in the adjacent parking bay cannot move despite being ready to take off”.
“Also, in a city like Mumbai, there are multiple unscheduled movements like aircraft of government and business houses which sometimes delays scheduled flights.”
All eyes will be on what sort of disruption this will cause for passengers already booked on flights from Mumbai that will no doubt be axed due to this need to reduce congestion.
