NEET-UG 2024 Results: RTI filed for details on grace marks after near perfect results spark debate

Dr. Vivek Pandey, a health activist, has filed an RTI plea seeking details on the number of students awarded grace marks and the criteria used for the same. He has also filed a petition in the Supreme Court, along with NEET aspirants, alleging instances of paper leaks during this year’s exam.

  • Total Registrations: 24,06,079
  • Candidates Appeared: 23,33,297
  • Candidates Absent: 72,782

Gender Representation

  • Female Registrations: 13,76,831 (17.84% increase from 2023)
  • Third Gender Registrations: 18 candidates appeared, compared to 13 in 2023.

Examination Details

  • Exam Centres: 4,750 centres in 571 cities across India
  • Languages: Exam conducted in 13 languages, including Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
  • International Centres: Exam also conducted in 14 cities outside India.

Candidates Express Concerns
Several candidates sought an explanation for scores of 718 and 719, which some students received. As per the NEET marking scheme, four marks are awarded for each correct answer, and one mark is deducted for each incorrect response. However, NEET scorecards showing 718 and 719 scores have created a stir among aspirants on social media.

NTA’s Explanation
The NTA further explained, “The loss of examination time was ascertained, and such candidates were compensated with grace marks. So, candidates’ marks can be 718 or 719 also.”
