Ryanair Flight Manchester-Tenerife Suffers Engine Trouble

A Ryanair Boeing 737 MAX flying from Manchester to Tenerife suffered problems with one of it’s engines, prompting a diversion to Faro.

Ryanair flight FR1249 is a routine scheduled flight between Manchester and Tenerife South, with the affected rotation being operated by EI-HGR.

As per data from Planespotters.net, EI-HGR is a 2.5 year old Boeing 737 MAX 200 Gamechanger that was delivered to the Irish carrier back in July 2021.

Of the 737 MAX variant, the Irish subsidiary of the group has 80 of them in the fleet, of which all are in active service, offering an active fleet age of 1.6 years.

Ryanair flight FR1249 departed Manchester at 0614 local time on December 12 and proceeded southbound in the direction of Tenerife South.

Upon reaching Portuguese airspace, the aircraft made a deviation east, and proceeded to descend into Faro, where the aircraft landed safely around 35 minutes after leaving it’s cruising altitude of 37,000 feet.

As per The Aviation Herald, it was understood that the cause of the diversion was due to an issue with one of it’s LEAP engines.

It is understood that passengers continued on to Tenerife from Faro on a replacement aircraft, with EI-HGR still on the ground at the time of writing (14/12/23).

All eyes will be on how much longer EI-HGR will be on the ground for, as technicians will need to assess the problem and then rectify it before it can enter commercial service once again.
