SWISS A330 Zurich-New Delhi Declares Emergency

In the last hour or so, a SWISS Airbus A330 operating a flight between Zurich and New Delhi has declared an emergency and diverted to Ahmedabad.

Information is limited regarding this incident, but below is what we know so far.

In the last hour or so, a SWISS Airbus A330 operating a flight between Zurich and New Delhi has declared an emergency and diverted to Ahmedabad.

SWISS flight LX146, which declared an emergency and diverted to Ahmedabad, is a routine scheduled flight between Zurich and New Delhi.

The aircraft is understood to be registered as HB-JHE.

As per data from Planespotters.net, HB-JHE is a 14.4 year old Airbus A330-300 that was delivered to the airline in January 2010.

Of the A330-300 variant, SWISS has 14 of them in the fleet.

Furthermore, of that 14, all but one aircraft are currently in active service, hosting an average fleet age of 13.6 years.

SWISS flight LX146 departed Zurich at 1257 local time earlier today and proceeded eastbound to New Delhi.

It was noted that the aircraft deviated south towards Ahmedabad over Sadiqabad.

From there, data from RadarBox shows the aircraft briefly declaring an emergency via the 7700 squawk code before reverting back.

It is understood the aircraft landed safely without further incident.

At this stage, it is unclear what the reason for the brief emergency call and subsequent diversion was.

HB-JHE is understood to still be on the ground in Ahmedabad.

There is no indication into whether it will continue to New Delhi.

Furthermore, it also indicates that there will be a delay for the return flight back to Zurich as a result of this incident.

As soon as we have more information pertinent to this, then we will update you accordingly.
