UPS 747 Freighter Makes Emergency Landing in Louisville

A UPS Boeing 747-8F freighter performing a service to Dallas Fort Worth, TX made an emergency landing in Louisville, KY on 18 February 2025.

UPS flight 5X752, operated by a Boeing 747-8F, had conducted a departure from Louisville International Airport (SDF). The flight was to be a scheduled freighter service to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).

During the initial climb after takeoff, flight crew transmitted emergency transponder code 7700. The pilots then terminated the climb procedure at 3600 feet.

Following the emergency declaration, a direct return to Louisville International Airport was then negotiated.

The nature of the emergency prompting the immediate expedited return is not yet known.

Flight data shows that UPS flight 5X752 had made a departure out of Louisville International Airport at 0433 local time on 18 February. The departure had been delayed and the scheduled departure time for the rotation was listed as 0337 local time.

Following takeoff, the aircraft was maintaining runway heading when the climb procedure was terminated at 3600 feet. Flight crew squawked transponder code 7700 at 0938 UTC; approximately five minutes after takeoff.

A left-hand circuit was then conducted to return the aircraft to the origin airport.

It has been operational service with the operator since its initial delivery in September 2018.
