A Wizz Air flight enroute to Malaga, Spain from Gdansk, Poland diverted to Geneva after shutting down an engine in flight on 26 May 2025.
Wizz Air Malta flight W61613, operated by an Airbus A321neo, was en route to Malaga Airport (MGP). The aircraft was performing a scheduled service from Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport (GDN).

While on flight plan track to the north east of Geneva, flight crew reported a problem with the aircraft’s left-hand engine. As a result, the engine was shut down in flight.
A drift down procedure was initiated and flight crew requested a precautionary diversion to nearby Geneva Airport (GVN).
The flight landed without further incident on runway 04 Geneva Airport, approximately 40 minutes after the in-flight incident occurred.
Wizz Air confirmed a technical fault with the aircraft. The airline mustered a replacement aircraft to complete the scheduled service Malaga the following day.

Flight data shows that flight W61613 made an on-time departure from Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport at 1643 local time on 26 May.
Following departure, the flight had set course normally, climbing to flight level FL350 for the south westerly service to Malaga, Spain.
The engine issue occurred in cruising flight as the aircraft approached Swiss airspace. A drift down procedure was then conducted to flight level FL200. The precautionary diversion to Geneva was then initiated.
The aircraft conducting the W61613 service to Malaga was an Airbus A321neo, registered 9H-WAD. This is a 2.7 year old narrow body aircraft belonging to the carrier Wizz Air Malta. It has been in service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in October 2022.
